A man named Alan Emtage, a student at the University of McGill, developed the first online search engine for the Web in 1990. This search engine was called "Archie" and was created to archive papers readily available on the Web at that time. About a year later, Gopher, an alternative search engine to Archie, was developed at the College of Minnesota. These 2 kinda search engines caused the birth of what we utilize as search engines today.
